SRT-4 Boomba Blow-Off Install

Installing a Boomba BOV (Blow-Off Valve) requires the removal of the stock valve and any other aftermarket BOV part like the Mopar Blue Plate. This is a very simple install that should be finished in less than 30 minutes.

    Required Tools:
  • Long Flathead screwdriver
  • 10mm wrench.

A new Boomba BOV should include all of the required hardware. However, if you're missing the 3 bolts they can be purchased at any hardware store under the following specifications:

    Optional Hardware:
  • M6 16mm - Boomba BOV (near stock)
  • M6 25mm - Mopar Blue Plate (longer)

Begin by removing the intake using a long flathead screwdriver to loosen the 2 clamps. Removing the battery is an optional step that will provide some extra room. Using a 10mm wrench disconnect the battery's negative wire to provide a safer working environment.

Disconnect the pink vacuum line running to the stock valve. Use a 10mm wrench to remove the 3 bolts securing the blow-off valve to the turbo housing, then remove the valve.

Removed stock valve. Disconnected pink vacuum line.
Remove any extra gasket material from the old BOV.

Install the desired spring from the 3 provided and assemble the Boomba BOV. Carefully align the opening on the BOV, gasket, and turbo housing, then install using the 3 10mm bolts. It's easier to begin with the passenger side bolt, then work on the bottom and top bolts.

Carefully twist the pink vacuum line around and connect it to the Boomba BOV. Reconnect the air intake and battery cable, you're all done.

This is an awesome site! Thanks for keeping it up... I was wondering what turbo upgrade did you go with back then?

David,

Thanks for the comments. Did your Boomba BOV include 3 different springs? If so, which one did you install? The spring tension will make a difference in it operates. If you plan on sticking with the stock turbo the Boomba BOV will probably be OK. If you go with a modified big wheel turbo like the E1 then I would encourage you to go with a different setup. Either the Mopar blue plate you are running now, the stock surge valve, or an external BOV. Boomba's BOV has been blamed for turbo failure in the past... mainly with PTP's SST. Even with the softest spring it does not allow boost to vent early or quickly enough.

I love the site and all the information you have provided. I recently installed the boomba 3rd gen bov similar to the one you show. However when it releases air it has a slight flutter similar to compressor surge. I was wondering if you experienced this on your setup. My SRT is stage 0 and completely stock. This was going to be my first mod but I have gone back to the mopar blue plate as a precaution. Thanks for your time. P.S. I have spoken to boomba and they say the sound is normal. I am just reluctant to trust a sales dept. Thanks again.
